In Walkoff, Lady Gladiators Loses To Watkins Mill
Lady Gladiators fell to Watkins Mill 25-24 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at 24 with Watkins Mill batting in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run for Watkins Mill.
Lady Gladiators trailed by five runs in the first inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. Lady Gladiators tallied 20 runs in the failed comeback. Andrea Vargas, Jeniffer Guandique, Rafa Saleh, Kenia Hernandez, Kelli Taney, and Vargas came through with RBIs to lead the rally.
Watkins Mill captured the lead in the first inning. C Moore drew a walk, scoring one run.
Lady Gladiators tallied ten runs in the second inning. Lady Gladiators batters contributing to the big inning included Vargas, Guandique, Saleh, Hernandez, Taney, and Vargas, all knocking in runs in the inning.
T White led things off on the rubber for Watkins Mill. She lasted seven innings, allowing 14 hits and 24 runs while striking out four.
Guandique toed the rubber for Lady Gladiators. She lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing zero hits and eight runs. Vargas threw five and two-thirds innings in relief.
Lady Gladiators hit two home runs on the day. Taney went deep in the sixth inning. Hernandez had a homer in the first inning.
Lady Gladiators had 14 hits in the game. Hernandez, Taney, Vargas, and Guandique each had multiple hits for Lady Gladiators. Taney and Hernandez each managed four hits to lead Lady Gladiators. Lady Gladiators tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Thania Argueta led the way with six.
J Cruz went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Watkins Mill in hits. Moore led Watkins Mill with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
