The Gladiator boys track team came in looking to move to 5-0 and clinch their first division title in school history after falling short last year. They’d have to go through the defending champs, Kennedy, and well rounded Wheaton team.
Kennedy is known for their dominance in the sprints and hurdles, so the Gladiators would need a few personal bests to even be in the mix.
After three events the boys opened a huge lead against Wheaton, but trailed Kennedy by a point. That would be the last time the gladiators trailed as they dominated the distance events with the Senior/Freshman duo of Andree’ D and Obsaa F collecting big points in the 1600m, 3200m & 800m runs. The boys also ran away with the relays not allowing either team to score a single point in the four events. Lots of personal records in the sprints and hurdles lead by Yannick S and Aaron W, who won multiple events. Jamarcus P, Brandon D, Eldon P and Josh D also showed up big time.
Sophomore Cameron R showed his consistency in the jumps placing top two in both the long and triple jumps.
The Gladiator boys not only won, but showed that they could possibly be a force for the next few years. Moving forward, the boys have a couple highly competitive meets on their schedule and will use that to hopefully qualify for the Montgomery County “A” as well as the 4A West Regional Championships in May.
Next up will be the Viking Invite at WJ Friday and Saturday.
Congrats to the Gladiator Boys on their first ever division title!
