Boys track team opened the season against division rivals Blair and Einstein. They would need solid performances across the board to pull this one off. The seniors stepped up big to grab four first place finishes with Josh Diop doubling up and sweeping both the 110m and 300m hurdles, Aaron Wilkerson blazed around the track for a new personal best in the 400m dash, and Andreé Di-Reumante pulled away from a deep field and cruised home in the 1600m run. Freshman Obsaa Feda showed his strength, winning the 3200m run. Sophomore Cameron Rice surprised the competition with huge leaps in the long jump and triple jump to take win both horizontal jumps. The sprinters stepped up big time to hold off Blair’s depth. Seniors Brandon Davis and Yannick Sobgo led the charge.
Even after all of the big performances there was no clear cut team winners. It came down to the final race, the 4x400m relay. It turned out to be the race of the day with the Gladiators pulling off the win against Blair and Einstein anchored by Andreé Di-Reumante.
We await the official results and team scores, but it looks like the Gladiators will come out 2-0 after the first meet.
